John Cannon Homes was founded in 1987, but the vision for the company began many years before. John Cannon graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in building construction and first came to Sarasota, Florida in 1979 to work for a national builder. The job soon expanded to cover the builder's Sarasota, Bradenton, Naples, and West Palm Beach properties.

Vision and Creativity

After five years John began working for a local builder in, what were then, two of Sarasota's most prestigious developments, The Lakes Estates and Deer Creek. John married his wife, Phillipa, and together they decided it was time to venture out on their own. It was 1987, and they started John Cannon Homes out of their garage. With creative networking and some creative financing, the Cannons designed, built and sold their first luxury, custom single-family model home at Misty Creek and that was quickly followed by construction of three new homes. In their second year, they built eight new homes, and the business grew rapidly thereafter.

Since then John Cannon Homes has built over 1,000 luxury custom homes in over 97 communities and has expanded his operations to include Sarasota, Manatee, Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. The company has grown from two employees in 1987 to currently employing eighty employees. John Cannon Homes is now considered one of Florida's premier builders of exceptional luxury custom homes.

Building a reputation through hard work

This meteoric success was achieved by vision, determination and old-fashioned hard work! John focused on designing and building luxurious custom homes on individual waterfront and golf course properties in some of Southwest Florida's most prestigious neighborhoods.

In Sarasota County, John Cannon Homes has established a reputation for excellence by building in the upscale communities of The Forest at Hi Hat Ranch, The Founders Club, Silver Oak, Prestancia, and Turtle Rock in Palmer Ranch, The Oaks, Sarasota Ranch Club, The Hammocks, North Creek Estates, and Siesta Estates. Our new model home located in Sarasota National will be completed early 2009.

In Manatee County, John Cannon Homes has built breathtaking homes located in The Lake Club at Lakewood Ranch, Teal Creek, Highfield, Legend's Walk, Palmer's Creek, Kingsmill, and Keswick- all located in The Country Club at Lakewood Ranch, Riviera Dunes, University Park Country Club, The Preserve at Panther Ridge, Amberwynd of Snead Island, Cove Sound, and River Wilderness. Homes are currently being built in these highly desirable communities: Country Club East, The Concession, The Lake Club, LaCantera in The Country Club at Lakewood Ranch, River Strand and Rive Isle, and South Gulf Cove. New John Cannon model homes can be found in River Strand at Heritage Harbour, LaCantera and The Lake Club in Lakewood Ranch, and soon at the Concession.

In Hillsborough County, visitors to Stonelake Ranch located on the banks of Lake Thonotosassa, will be the first to see our spectacular Carramar model. The two newest John Cannon homes can be found at Antigua Cove in Little Harbor, on Tampa's South Shore.
